I was ELATED to see BATS swooping through the trees in my neighborhood during my twilit nature walk this evening! There were loads of bats where I used to live, and I knew moving here I wouldn't necessarily be so lucky, but I finally spotted one! A bat is hard to notice unless you know what to look for, but you can tell you're seeing a one by its speed, shape, and what time of day you see it. I love bats. I think they are adorable and love that they have sonar (which is basically like hearing magic to us mere humans). To me they're another kind of magical creature, and I am so grateful that they eat the heck out of mosquitos. Did you know that a group of bats is called a cauldron? I'm so into it. To celebrate this most recent sighting, I decided to create a playful illustration depicting my feelings of joy!
